Isabella Rossellini's performance went unnoticed during award season, she had the most difficult role in the film, but played this scene with such brilliance.

reminds me of the WW2 vets coming back from Europe after the war, and helping each other get over the shell shock and post-traumatic stress disorder that they suffered from the fighting -- the two weeks on the troop ships before they got home gave them some time to decompress, to hear each other's tales and provide some sympathy, some grass-roots therapy - nobody else could have done it, nobody else could understand but their own fellow soldiers - kinda the same here, with the plane crash
