Best RPG this generation, that's a big call man. I mean it's up against Mass Effect 1 AND 2, Fall Out 3, Oblivian, Dragon Age, that's some pretty stiff competition.

All those games you mentioned are western rpgs and it wouldn't be fair to compare a jrpg to them as they are two different beasts.

True, most don't make the distinction, but I wouldn't even call this the best JRPG this generation - in my opinion, at any rate, that belongs to Lost Odyssey. The story in FFXIII is pretty poor, particularly the characterization at the opening. The game kinda meanders around in order to get you to the "good" non-linear areas. LO is the type of game FFXIII should have been...doesn't stop this new battle system being awesome however!

Well you didn't say best jrpg you just said best rpg. Also I've noticed that a lot of reviewers don't seen to make a distinction.
