I have to really question a system that elects the Public Defender. Budgetary requests on behalf of the indigent accused are never popular- and a guy who tauts his "fiscal responsibility" attributes could very well be acting at the expense of needed increases- be they secretarial staff, investigators, or courtroom assistants. Caseloads are always growing- and sometimes budget have to expand in order to assure effective representation.
