Martial Law is a film directed by Yoshida Kiju (also known as Coup D'etat) which tells the story of Japanese Revolutionary Socialist and Nationalist Thinker Ikki Kita and the failed military coup his writings inspired, the February 26 incident, which was famously the subject of Yukio Mishima's book and short film Patriotism. Ikki Kita struggles with his childless wife, adopted Chinese son, a doubt ridden disciple who begs him for guidance, the ever encroaching secret police and the mysterious nature of the Emperor's will. Highly recommended to anyone interested in Japanese history, fans of Yukio Mishima's work, the political ideologies of Nationalism or enjoys Japanese films.
