Tuesday April 26 marks the 25th anniversary of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster where deadly radiation spewed across Europe, damaging and destroying lives, landscapes and hopes.

Australian uranium fuels the dirty and dangerous nuclear industry. On a day when everything works to plan this becomes high level radioactive waste - on a day when things go wrong it becomes fallout. On the anniversary of Chernobyl and in the shadow of Fukushima it is time to halt the uranium trade.

@erkziltonz That's what the nuclear industry keeps telling the world - but why should we believe an industry that has already left such a deadly legacy and made constant assurances of safety only to cause disasters on this scale?

Why doesn't Australia support development of Thorium technology? There are various peaceful countries like India pursuing the use of Thorium, which is inherently a much safer material than uranium.

@m3ekag Hmm...actually it's amusing to me that you took my sarcastic comment about the 24/7 'Arse' Sunshine literally ;)...I don't even know where India came into our 'discussion'...but just to let to know Australia has agreed to sell Uranium to India, so has Canada, the US is selling India Nuclear technology, so why shouldn't Australia? Israel already has hundreds of nukes, so why would they want uranium from India?...by the way,I think you meant cold climate gives us 'thick' skin..not 'thin';)
