this song is about Hanns Eisler being deported from the U.S. during the Red Scare of the 1950's. He was a talented composer, first exiled from Nazi Germany then from his new home in the United States. Woody Guthrie was a contemporary and this song is about his friend's exile.

what does "brother's on the vinegar truck" and "sister's in the tickly bush" mean?

this song and" ingrid bergman" are wonderful time capsules from around 60 years ago. Billy should be applauded for bringing them to life.
