This is like a rally special stage, and i have seen bigger gaps on the finish line between top flight WRC drivers than there was here. Fair enough the mini lost on a course more suited to it.. but you have to admit the price gap is considerable.

@CitizenSlide im with you there!
I have no problem with being beaten by more expensive cars, what I like is the look of surprise on their face when they actually have to earn a victory against such a small car.

Deathsquad :D

the Porsche is a luxury item.
the mini is an every day driver. and probably one of the ugliest ones on the market right now i might add. right under the new fiat in ugliness.

@CitizenSlide Prehaps you are the type of person who prefer to lose with a smile on your face, I prefer to win, that's why I'll go with Porsche.

@jellycracker - and that was the WHOLE point of the campaign. MINI's are for people who don't take themselves too seriously, don't mind making a fool of themselves but underneath that comic exterior is a car which is capable of taking a swipe at a true sportscar - losing and still walking away with a smile on its face. I've also owned a few MINI's myself (Cooper S & JCW Works) and would often choose to use our MINI (over our Porsche) for this very reason..

@CitizenSlide If people will let themselves be manipulated by a media stunt like this, then let it be so. But for the rest of us, who actually think for ourselves, clearly sees that it’s ludicrous to race with a 911 S. A Boxter would have been plenty to beat the Mini, even a 968 perhaps even the 944 would have done the job. True racing credit is earned on the racetrack, not via manipulating media stunts. As far as I’m concerned, Mini made a fool of them selves.

@jellycracker - why would you assume I'm a MINI fan? We reviewed the campaign as a case study, monitored user sentiments and performed a review of the value of the earned media generated by MINI - they clearly gained significantly from the whole stunt. I was embarassed for Porsche - and I say that having owned more than a dozen Porsche's myself - they should have laughed with MINI, played along with the banter and treated it in the spirit it was intended. Porsche can be fun too

@CitizenSlide I did follow the whole story... Mimi made a fool of them self’s, and aren't even large enough to admit defeat. Porsche took them as seriously as they needed to, in order to beat them. It's hard to win with a losing hand, Mini bluffed, and lost. Amazing you Mini fans refuse to admit it. I have respect for Mini, but I don't see why you so eagerly try to put Porsche down, in order to praise Mini. Porsche has no need for such dirty tricks.

@jellycracker - If you follow the full story, MINI US' president Jim McD challenged Porsche US President to a race - it was clearly a marketing stunt, but Porsche didn't 'get' the joke and refused to play along, so the game was played without them. MINI earned significant amounts of kudos with their fans, Porsche were left wrong-footed and shown to lack a sense of humour, whilst MINI achieved their goals (lots of social discussions about their brand).
Not safe in a stock car. Come on. "Someone asked why we aren't using the big course... Not safe to go through 70, 80, 90 mph corners..." Be a man, people go to track days in stock cars all day long.

38k for each second please. That is just the first lap. In a real race it would go like this in favor of Porsche:
1st lap - 2 second lead
2nd - 4 second lead
3rd - 6 second lead
4th - 8 second lead
5th - 10 second lead
and so on.... you get the picture. The mini is just a 20000 car.
