When you read Ken Loach's bio on wikipedia, the scene makes sense. He is a Muslim loving, terrorist loving, commie loving, Israel hating, anti Semitic bigoted leftist.

Who cares if she supports Glasgow Rangers, the point is that she doesn't mind going against the grain in an all-Celtic school, that she has taken an assembly debate on a 'common sense issue' terrorism and brilliantly turned it around, that she is also a proud Scottish Muslim girl and sees no contradiction in any of this because at the end of the day she is being an INDIVIDUAL, constantly defying family's and society's expectations of her.
