Rey De La Torre (1917-1994) performs the "Six Variations on a Theme of Luis Milán," composed in 1945 by Joaquín Nin-Culmell (1908-2004). I created this video from the LP (depicted in the video above), "Recital - Rey De La Torre, Classic Guitarist," released on the Epic label, serial number BC 1151, in 1962. Images in this video are from the LP and the LP jacket, except for the images of Nin-Culmell and the 1962 Billboard magazine advertisement for this LP.

Rey De La Torre premiered this opus in New York on November 10, 1947.

  • Very interesting composition. Since I myself played and uploaded all 6 Milan's Pavana's in youtube, I feel very close to these variations. Than you for uploading this piece. I had one very old record by Ray De La Torre, but I do not remember which one. Best regards, from freeing Tokyo.

  • Rey de la Torre, disciple of Miguel Llobet who was a disciple of Tarrega, is my favourite classical guitarist. This recording is very rare ! The composition is written in D, but here we hear it in D# /Eb . I don't know whether it had been upspeeded by a program or maybe Rey played with a capo (cejilla) in the first fret. WHO KNOWS ?

  • Znakomita muzyka !
