@HiveFleetHydra well it's not like i want to IGNORE new works. i'd love it if the Cthulhu Mythos became more popular, i'd love it if i could walk into my school library and see all the stories by H.P.Lovecraft up on the shelves, and even others. i just wish they stayed true to his original intentions, rather then taking it and putting it into something that shouldn't be. i can understand why, as Azathoth isn't really someone you can describe; but that's half the fun of him, isn't it?

@hiimquinn In my opinion, the later authors made Yog-sothoth definitively more powerful than Azathoth to get something closer to a Monotheistic god. All knowing and All Powerful rather than Azathoth's infinite might combined with a mind that may or may not actually exist. It's something of a simplification of the Cthulhu mythos but I can see where it comes from. But still, if you don't like the post-lovecraft Cthulhu mythos authors, you are free to ignore them.

@HiveFleetHydra well that's like saying "Nyarlathotep is Azathoth's soul". he's not his SOUL, he's simply the one who is most loyal, and hears directly from him. i can understand why some would consider Yog-Sothoth to be more powerful, seeing as how he's the manefestation of time and space. but reality shatter's like glass in Azathoth's presence. and no matter how far away, or how far back in time Azathoth goes, once he is awake, all his dreams (including Yog-Sothoth) evaporate

@hiimquinn Well, the later authors of the Cthulhu mythos say he is stronger, so I guess if you count their works he would indeed be more powerful. However, the thing about the Mythos is that you are free to disregard any author or story you don't like as the canon policy is effectively nonexistent. So if you are one of those who vehemethly refuse to accept the works of anyone but Lovecraft as canon in the Cthulhu mythos; then the whole question of Yog-sothoth vs Azathoth becomes up for debate.
-
@HiveFleetHydra but Yog-Sothoth isn't stronger. i get so many when people say that :P
-
The reason that many people insist that Yog-sothoth is stronger is because Wikipedia says that he is mightier than the all powerful Azathoth and wiser than the all knowing Yibb-istll. The mention of Yibb-istll most certainly means that this tidbit came from post-lovecraft additions to the Cthulhu mythos, most likely by August Derleth and beyond. Make of it what you will.

And this is why the actual cults of the old ones are so much more awesome than every other group with an agenda or opinion: When they're done, nobody will be able to string two words together, let alone argue.

@8BitSesshoumaru I think he's just trolling, dude.
This video needs some idiot piping of flutes instead of the music it has now.

Praise you Azathoth! If knowing the unknowable make me mad, than I don't want to be sane! I hope you shatter my mind in a million of parts!
