PUTRAJAYA (Dec 17, 2007) -- Johor will play a major role in the 13th edition of Le Tour de Langkawi when the southern state hosts three of the nine stages in a revamped race route that will provide action-packed excitement from the start to the end.
The winds of change will see Asia's biggest race from Feb 9-17 facing its highly respected Hors Class mountain stage in Genting Highlands on the second day of the Tour, the earliest this stage has ever been held in the history of LTdL.
The 2008 was unveiled by Minister of Youth and Sports Dato' Seri Azalina Othman Said in a ceremony at the Ministry here today. The Tour begins in Alor Star for the first time since 2001 and after a warm-up on the first day, the riders will all be fired up to conquer Genting. In the past, many riders would have been rather spent by the time Genting comes around, however it will be a different story next year. As all the riders will be fresh, we can expect a battle royale up Genting.
A surprise awaits fans in the final stage of the Tour this time around, as the organisers have chosen to break with tradition and instead of the usual Kuala Lumpur Criterium, the final stage on Feb 17 will feature a gruelling 153-kilometre race from Seremban through Rembau, Kuala Klawang and Ampang before ending at Dataran Merdeka. Team work will be the key as the battle will be fought to the very end. Riders embark on some serious climbs along the way and is likely to end their campaign with some spectacular action.
