We had Ronald Reagan and a distinctly Western concept of Nationalism (which is a force for liberation rather than oppression). It was the Cold War, so The People had a patriotic cause they could get behind (which again goes back to the concept of Nationalism). Plus, a lot of great movies, songs, and video games came out of that era - some of the best of which had Nationalistic themes of Nationalismo a go go. One example would be Bionic Commando (which is pro-Nationalist and anti-fascist).

It sounds quite similar (with the exception for the sax) to Queen. Am I the only one who hears the similarity in the rhythm and the voice? Back in the 80's I wouldn't have been surprised to hear the song performed by Mercury :)
