There continues to be a general lack of engagement between the government and civil society as repression, corruption throughout government ranks and especially in the judiciary and political circles persists, often spilling over into the private sector. ঢাকায় এসেই তাজুদ্দিন সরকার ঘোষণা করে, তাদের সরকার বিপ্লবী সরকার। বাংলাদেশে সমাজতন্ত্র প্রতিষ্ঠা করাই তাদের লক্ষ্য। যদিও ১৯৭০ এর নির্বাচনে আওয়ামী লীগের নির্বাচনী ইশতেহারে সমাজতন্ত্রের কোন অঙ্গীকার ছিল না। সমাজতন্ত্রের শৃঙ্খলে বাংলাদেশের জনগণ কখনোই নিজেদের বন্দী করতে আগ্রহী ছিল না। তাদের সর্বকালের দাবি ছিল অর্থনৈতিক স্বাধীনতা এবং সামাজিক ন্যায় বিচার। জনাব প্রধানমন্ত্রীর এই ঘোষণাকে চ্যালেঞ্জ করেছিল তৎকালীন প্রগতিশীল, দেশপ্রেমিক রাজনৈতিক দলগুলো। ১৯৭২ সালের ১৭ই জানুয়ারী বাংলাদেশ কৃষক-শ্রমিক সমাজবাদী দল অন্যান্যদের সাথে প্রশ্ন তোলে। তারা বলে, আওয়ামী লীগ সরকার বিপ্লবী সরকার হতে পারে না। বাংলাদেশের স্বাধীনতা সংগ্রাম যদি বিপ্লবই হয়ে থাকে তবে সে বিপ্লব শুধু আওয়ামী লীগই করেনি, করেছে এ দেশের সাড়ে সাত কোটি মানুষ। আর তাই সকল দলের প্রতিনিধি নিয়েই গঠন করতে হবে স্বাধীন বাংলাদেশের জাতীয় সরকার। তাদের এ দাবি যুক্তিসঙ্গত হওয়া সত্ত্বেও আওয়ামী লীগ ভারতীয় সাহায্যে প্রবাসকালের একলা চলো নীতিই ধরে রাখে। মস্কোপন্থী মোজাফফর ও মনিসিং গং ক্ষমতার অংশ না পেয়েও যুদ্ধকালীন সময় থেকেই তাদের বিদেশী মুরুব্বীদের ইচ্ছানুসারে আওয়ামী লীগ সরকারের লেজুড়বৃত্তি করতে থাকে নির্লজ্জভাবে। ভারতীয় রাজনীতিতে সিপিআই যেভাবে কংগ্রেসের লেজুড়ে পরিণত হয় ঠিক সে অবস্থাই হয়েছিল মোজাফফর ন্যাপ এবং মনিসিং এর কম্যুনিষ্ট পার্টির বাংলাদেশের রাজনীতিতে।

কিন্তু সার্বিক আর্থ-সামাজিক পরিস্থিতির দ্রুত অবনতির ফলে প্রফেসর মোজাফফর আহমদ (মোজাফফর ন্যাপের প্রেসিডেন্ট) আওয়ামী লীগের লেজুড়বৃত্তি করেও অবস্থার চাপে ১০ই মে চট্টগ্রামে জাতীয় সরকার কায়েমের দাবি তুলতে বাধ্য হয়েছিলেন। (majordalim.com)
