  • one more thing, for gold 金 in Teochew is pronounced 'kim" not "ging".

    Sorry, with that I'm out of here, see ya! :)

    别日俺在来phueh. (pag yik nang zai lai phueh) :)

  • I hope Tracytan280 don't think I'm being picky, here. Not at all, I made a ton of mistakes typing Teochew words in Chinese or Romanization. I just want to point our some obvious mistakes to each our young learners, and also want to point the fact that 99% of our Teochew words have written characters in Chinese both modern and classical forms.

    E.g. the word aroma or good smell in Teochew is "phang1" 芳, this a classical Chinese word for aroma; 香 (hiang1) is its modern Chinese ver.

  • 吃饱|无会| ? = tsieh pa bhoi? = 吃会饱无? = tsieh oi pa bho? = did (you) have enough to eat?

  • for bhoi7 |无会|,I have seen people used the this character 卖 (to sell) which is also pronounced "bhoi7" in Teochew.

  • @chapsroc CORRECTION:

    The correct pronunciation of 袜 (for socks) is "bhueh8"

  • bhoi7 = |无会| = bho+oi = doesn't know how = never

    bhue7 = 未 = not yet

    ang ang bhoi hai nang = 红红|无会|害人 = red hot (but) never harm people

    ang ang bhue hai nang = 红红|未害人 = red hot (but) not yet harm people.

    another example:

    吃饱未? = tsieh pa bhue? = Have you eaten your meal (with a full stomach) yet?

    吃饱|无会| = tsieh pa bhoi? = (that food) is/was enough (for you) to eat?

  • Some interesting subtleties of our Teochew language.

    Tracytan280's Teochew is quite good, e.g. she promounced 袜 (socks) as "bui" correctly, many S.E. Asia Teochew nang (I'm included) pronounce it as incorrectly as "ghueh8" the same as 月(for moon), but correct pronunciation for "socks" 袜 is "ghueh8" in the eighth tone.

    But I think she made mistake in using 袜 (for bui) in the title, Tracy Tan sang it as "ang ang BHOI7 hai nang" not "bui" or bhue7 for 未 which has different meaning.
