Nexans uses National Instruments LabVIEW and CompactRIO to control hydraulic systems on the Nexans Spider, a remote operated vehicle (ROV) used to level the seabed and clear the way for a 1,200-kilometer undersea pipeline. LabVIEW provides an advanced 3-D "virtual reality" HMI display of the ocean floor so the operator can maneuver the vehicle in poor lighting conditions.

The video fails to mention that the spiders turned out to be pretty useless at excavating most of the trenches... They eventually did it by blasting high pressure water at them from another vessel. I dont think there were many environmental consequenses though, the seabed was barren mud / clay (lots of fish around though0. The alternative to excavating was to dump millions of tonnes of rock around the uneven bits...

Well If the excutives of these dam companys were not making a couple million a year in wages. And put half of those wages in a incentive plan for developers of clean energy. They would cut the time of development in half or better. But unfortunatly if we had clean or better yet free energy. They would not have the strangle hold that they do.

Wow, I'm shocked. This video sparked protest from mostly environmentalists. *rolls eyes* Personally, I think you have to admit that the robot is quite a neat creation.
