Great spanish composer, from Sevilla, Joaquín Turina (1882-1949), knew and loved deeply the violin, although not a violinist himself (he was a pianist). In spite of his not very wide production for this instrument (among all, I think "El poema de una sanluqueña" is his most inspired work), he was, along with Sarasate and Toldrá (both of them great violinists), the best spanish composer ever to write for the violin. The original title means "The poem of a girl from Sanlúcar". This is the fourth movement, poetically intitled El rosario en la iglesia (The Rosary in the church).

(Scherzo, noviembre 2009)
"...exceptional spanish violinist...dazzling virtuosism...Arcangel convince us once more that he is one of the greatest violinists of the day." (Scherzo, november 2009)

''We are talking about a performer who is highly gifted, who owns a huge sense of music and an impeccable skill but, above all, who is a very good performer... a pretty good one indeed. It would be also advisable to know that a Yehudi Menuhin himself noticed his talent and that his repertoire is a very wide one. So, you can imagine it: he is quite a genius. We would be very wrong, however, if we would consider this to be something ephemeral, a flower that does not live longer than one spring, a career predestined to reach the highest but which does not become more than mere expectations or simple hope. Not at all. We are facing an extraordinary musician. Moreover, a real musician, on top of being a marvellous violinist () extraordinary faculties those of this young man, the violin has no secrets for him and he does what he wants with the instrument and, besides, he does it marvellously () we are facing a performer who is predestined to occupy a place among the greatest ones." ( Scherzo)

"With a confident and steady stroke but searching for even the slightest glimpse of audible poetry, this young valuable man makes fun of the word "impossible" and seduces us with Paganini's weapons, achieving passages that really leave one breathless. As Mozart said about Beethoven: 'Do not leave this young man out of sight. He will cause much sensation.' " (Melómano)

Young spanish violin virtuoso Gabriel De Arcángel has played at the most prestigious concert venues of Spain, such as Auditorio Nacional in Madrid, Palau de la Música in Valencia, Teatro Monumental in Madrid, Teatro del Liceo in Barcelona, Fundación Juan March in Madrid, Auditorio Conde Duque in Madrid, Teatro Arriaga in Bilbao, etc...in solo recitals, in duo with piano and as a soloist with orchestra under renowned batons, like Sergiu Comissiona for instance and others. Abroad, he has given concerts in Swetzerland, Portugal, France, Hungary, Austria, USA, Australia,...in such important venues as Carnegie Hall or Wiener Konzerthaus. He is basically a self-taught violinist, although received a few number of lessons during his childhood from Comellas, in Spain, and then, several years later, from the great Tibor Varga, in Switzerland. Anyhow, his most important apprenticeship by far came by studying recordings of much older violinists, especially Kreisler, Toscha Seidel, Heifetz, Vasa Prihoda, Sarasate, Thibaud or Ysaÿe.
