This was a project we did for the DJ Cave episode on DIY Network's show Man Caves. Yes it would have been cooler if the bars moved but hey...we made it for free.

Disappointing, I was expecting proper moving bars... not hard with todays microcontrollers....

@Chastises Well they don't have to be holes, they can be pockets or likely just transparent material. What do you think it is?

@Migglees Well these are just holes in the material with multicolor LEDs underneath. To move it'd have to be a display (essentially a TV).
