Since you're not going the epoxy resin route and making glue with that, what are you using for glue?

I am using EXTERIOR grade heavy duty Liquid Nails. I used the same thing when I built my hovercrafts in the past and it held up fine. Remember, everything WILL be covered in fiberglass resin for water proofing in the end.
