@cal1972p thats partially true.. one thing you forgot to mention is the reality of it.. take a man like me.. works overtime everyday would do anything for a woman just to give me a moment of her attention that she doesnt have to give.. and yet the Good Lord blessed me with this face and these bent fingers.. and each and every night i eat alone. 32 years old and ive never had a girlfriend. i do all i can to smile but am never forgiven for keeping my head down. im treated like a mean old man.

@cal1972p "This song speaks to a selfless devotion rather than a desire to fill someone's material wish list" VERY WELL put! Excellent description of the love of a person for another.

Country music was always something I assiduously avoided on the radio dial. But I got a job in 1992 that played country music all night. I started finding myself listening to it even when I wasn't at work. It was this beautiful song that pushed me over the edge and made me a fanatical country music lover. It fact, it's my 7th. favorite song of all time. Thank you, Wynonna! I've been blessed enough to hear this twice in concert now.

Almost forgot what Ms. Wy looked like without flaming red hair. =) Not that flaming red hair is bad (she totally rocks it!), but it's nice to see videos from when she just went solo and look back on 'em. =)
Wy is beautiful, stunning and a wonderful singer. Love you girl!!!

@bmwk1200rsl: I agree with the others in that you have taken a beautifully sentimental song and disected it through a VERY cynical lense, indeed. You must be quite a negative person. Bonnie married the man (who didn't own a car or have a lot of money), and she also worked, and whenever he bought her things, she said she didn't deserve them. That hardly sounds like the materialistic woman your cold heart wants to see. Try listening to it again, my friend.

Really stunningly moving song. Beautiful.

@bmwk1200rsl I think you have totally missed the meaning of the song. She isn't making him get her things! He just loves her so much that he wants to get her things...things she says she doesn't deserve. It is all about the mans love and devotion. You are reading into the words a whole different, negative story.

ive loved that song since i was a really little girl
This song speaks to a selfless devotion rather than a desire to fill someone's material wish list. It just brings out something in us that we have experienced as a life partner and a parent. It brings out a positive emotion. Great song.
