With around eighty percent of fish stocks in trouble, species driven to extinction and ecosystems on the brink of collapse it is time to rethink how we harvest our oceans. Greenpeace is encouraging retailers to clean up their seafood shelves. By switching to a sustainable seafood sourcing policy they can change the world's fisheries and help to protect the world's oceans.

Wow, this is so sad. People need to stop pushing these species to extinction. :(

we don't have 'capitalism' we have 'debtism'!
Capitalism is based on Fractional Reserve Banking where, if you are a Bank & you have £1 million ON DEPOSIT, that 'allows' you to 'create' £8 million in 'new loans' (based on a 8-1 ratio).
The problems we have right now are because they took capitalism & turned it on its head & said if you're a Bank & you have 1 million in 'mortgages' (i.e. DEBTS) the Banks could now treat that as 'CAPITAL' & not as DEBT.
So we now have 'debtism' not capitalism

friend.. I'm not convinced 'GM FOOD' is 'safe' period.
And the first question that popped into my head with the milk thing was "so does that mean all their non-'organic' milk is from cows that ARE FED GM?
I don't think intensive animal farming is 'sustainable' either. However having been born on a farm & living in a farming community I am also aware that the best 'organic farming' models actually include animals as part of a mixed farming model. One that has served us well for countless millenia

I think the "the trend of many companies going "green" & cruelty-free" is mostly BS!
Its like advertising.. you rarely need to advertise something that everyone wants.
IMO same with the big companies and their 'greenwash'.. they only need to do it because they ARENT 'green' & they want some of that 'market'.
example.. a supermarket here sells 'organic' milk, but when you go on-line & check their definition of 'organic' it is NOT FED ON Genetically Modified grain!? They simply re-defined organic!

Again you speak in extremes & its all or nothing.. there is 'balance' too.
As you say, the alternative is 'good education' not indoctrination.. but how do we deliver a 'good eductaion' to 2 BILLION kids??
It requires good teachers, good infrastuctures & MONEY!
Good science without 'conflicts of interests' & corporate fixes. Information not propaganda!
But this requires a 'balance' to both the 'corporate dictators' as well as the 'government dictators'. Both are evils we are better off WITHOUT!

"trust me"? I get suspicious of how much those words are used these days.. sorry
& why does it have to be an 'either-or' approach?? We need BOTH 'taxation', 'regulation' AND consumer-led demand!
As we both know 'change' is demonstrably slow! If we left it to the whims of shoppers then the world would sink under ice melt before we changed our behaviour enough to prevent eco-tastrophies.
Sometimes people need more information too. If people knew what went into some things they wouldn't buy them.

Apologies about the typo thought you actually MEANT non-distractive. lol ;-)
Yes I agree they need a push.. IMO they need GLOBAL 'regulations' with teeth that will lead towards 'Sustainability' & a tax structure that leads that way too.
Two identical items that 'Look' exactly the same could be produced in totally different ways.
If the more 'polluting & unsustainable' one was more expensive then it would be less attractive to shoppers because it will be the same thing but more expensive.

if you must put something in quotation marks " " please quote it correctly.
I didn't say "non-distractive".. I said non-destructive.
Yes I KNOW that much of the destruction is down to 'consumerism'. But consumerism can be led in this direction or that very easily with advertising propaganda etc.
IMO its the large corporations that need to change.. people can only buy what they're offered. If it ain't for sale they can't buy it.
IMO the big corporate polluters need to change THEIR behaviour now!

Friend I've been an Ecologist for over 30 years. I've done the best I can to live a 'non-destructive' life. Don't start on me now FFS! Like I said it ain't a pissing contest over who's lived more sustainably than who.
I'm not 'pointing fingers' & if it was our habits that dictated to companies then there wouldn't be any such thing as 'too big to fail' or 'bail-outs'
The 'globalist' corporate web is slanting the economy & your idea that we drive the market (& not vice versa) no longer holds true.

crikey people... it ain't a pissing contest!
We must all do whatever we feel we CAN do.. and stop pointing fingers at each other.
Fact is, even minor changes in behaviour by the WORST offenders would acheive a LOT more than minor changes in those who already do a lot to mitigate the impact they have on the environment.
