Dapo Torimiro is one of the subjects of my documentary, "I Have Dreams, Dammit!", a film about the realities of the pursuit of a dream.

Producer/Musician Dapo Torimiro (John Legend, Brandy, David Archuleta) jammed out at the Big Fish Audio booth at NAMM on Saturday, Jan. 17, 2009.

  • It's neither negative or positive.

    It is merely an opinion.

    Sorry. I get it now.

He's getting paid by the NOTE?!

Wow. He must've made a killin' that day!

Seriously, though. I can see he's clearly a talented musician. I just had a headache listening to it. I would've been more inclined to buy the keyboard, hardware, software he was demo'ing if he had just demonstrated the product...not HIMSELF!

    Lessons learnt :)

  • 1. You are in total denial of what is going on with you, but don't worry, realizing it is the first step.

    2. Yes you are being negative. Face the facts about your passive-aggressiveness.

    3. If you had a headache listening to it, I have a really clever little idea, why don't you (now prepare yourself because this is very very advanced) why don't you PRESS THE RED X ON YOUR BROWSER AND LEAVE WITHOUT CUTTING THE PERSON DOWN! I know, it's revolutionary, but give it a try.

  • and for the grand finale... as a general rule of thumb, criticizing someone on the internet wouldn't be half as bad (because let's face it, we all have opinions) but it wouldn't be half as bad if you YOURSELF actually had a video up here. Then it's at least fair. Let us see you doing something you love - on camera - and then let us - the world wide web - get a stab at giving you "feedback" and then see how that MIGHT change how you leave comments for others.

  • Hmmm... check me out... i'm a great player... i mean....look how many notes i can play per minute! these scales will blow your mind.... i can totally jazz you out!

    dammit man. learn a TUNE!

even Dizzy Gillespie & Herbie Hancock knew that!

  • He's demoing their product at a conference. It's meant to be a bunch of stuff crammed into a small amount of time. Why do you have to be negative?

  • in other words, this is not a concert or a recording for a cd, this is a demo of a product.

  • Don't want to sound too critical, but 95% of the work was in the right hand which is definitely his strength, would be nice to have seen a bit mor chordal harmonic soloing and polyrythmic action and interplay between the two hands. Dapo if you read this, i'm not being critical just identifying where you could improve, I'm not much of a keyboard player myself, so do take this comment in good faith

  • Having known a bit about Dapo from when he played keyboards at the House on the Rock in Lagos and his excellent work with Kush, I appreciate his talent, but this video did not really do justice to his abilities. The sound quality and video quality is poor - yes over time I have become more discerning on Youtube.!

  • @Becoming0ne its pretty easy when you think of the fact that he's been playing music since he was 12..just another instrument.. its normally very easy for someone to transition from one instrument to the next and be proficient at it.. its a lil more difficult if youve NEVER played any instruement even in your younger years to come and pick up an instruement in older years and be really good at it...

  • It's amazing that he didn't start learning the piano until he was 19. It's pretty inspirational. Makes me think I should get a few lessons.

  • $100 to whoever kills that drum
