WJZY-TV 46, Charlotte NC Sign-off (1989) and Sign-on (1988)

Channel 46 today is Charlotte's CW Network station. From 1995 to 2006 it was the UPN Network station. But before that, it was the Queen City's independent station after WCCB-TV 18 joined the Fox Network in 1986. This combined clip testifies of WJZY's programming at the time, classic movies, cartoons and familiar TV favorites. The sign-off features clips of movie people (and Looney Tunes characters) preparing to retire for the night, set to Jimmy Durante's recording of "Good Night". The sign-on that follows has clips of famous folks doing morning stuff (shaving, exercising, breakfast) to the same Mr. Durante's "Start Off Each Day with A Song". The sign-off was recorded in the summer of 1989, the sign-on in Autumn 1988 (sadly, about 20-30 seconds of the beginning of the sign-on is absent, for I didn't hit the "Record" button of the VCR quick enough).

The color bars as used in those days by WJZY came straight out of the Tektronix TSG-170A generator (the spacing of the box where the station ID was spelled out was the key; that plus the 450 Hz tone heard here).
