My complaint is that the republicans and the democrats who govern America, seem so very often to care most (maybe even "only") about power, control, and money. Our global credit rating was even down graded this year because the two parties could not effectively pass laws to benefit the population of America nor to earn the trust of other governments and creditors. I have no solution and so far, I don't think anyone else does either.
I am not politically aware nor smart, but I wonder if no candidates were allowed to accept any money from any one, while running for office nor even while in office, it might make a difference. The internet is free. Let them run adds on that for example.
Require that no riders are ever permitted to be added to any new bills up for vote. They either vote yes or no on each item, without adding pipelines, nor military bases for home states nor any other of the thousands of past pork items.
As you see, I haven't a clue how to help, but maybe you might.
Thanks for listening, chuck.

THE REDS AND BLUES, copyright Chuck Picklesimer 2011

The reds and blues are hoping that we'll choose
Each one of them, as they lead around the voters
In a game where lies begin.
The reds and blues are hoping that the voters
Are not shown, true rules are only for the
reds and blues to know.

Promises get made at the start of every game
That lasts four awful years when no
Main streets ever win.
But the circle just grows stronger
As betrayal's running deep
And streets may fill as people
Seek relief

There's a big old treasure chest filled with money.
Each of us has left a portion there.
Big leaders with the keys
Keep us little on our knees
Being ruled by laws and blinders
Being led by whip and leash
While tricky rule deciders
Swear the game is on the square.

But a promise that is empty
Like a danger loaded gun
Will kill a hope and purpose without care.

Big leaders with the keys
Keep us little on our knees
It ain't right and it ain't new
But what are we to do
In game of red and blue and nothing fair.

The reds and blues are hoping that we'll choose
Each one of them, as they lead around the voters
In a game where lies begin.
It ain't right and it ain't new
But what are we to do
In game of red and blue and nothing fair.

  • great to see you making songs about real world stuff... I have little patience for politics -it always seems to be about the posturing & masqerading, the integrity of the politican rapidly gets lost even tho some start with altruistic ideals. I do marvel that people actually want to be politicans. having said that I just watched the film "Iron Lady" -portrayal of Maggie Thatcher..I never expected to feel empathy for Maggie but this film demonstrates there is a human story behind every politican.

  • @wild0goose hi Ann. of course i agree with all you say about politicians, sad but true. i will look for "iron lady". should be interesting. thanks for taking the time to listen and comment. i respect your opinions, as i respect your artistry. be well, chuck.

  • Somehow, I'm a bit late to this one, Chuck. I have been so tied up with the holidays that I haven't been on the internet as much. This is fantastic as always! The lyrics are top notch. I feel the same way about our two parties. Our government is totally broken now. In my lifetime, I've never seen such ineffective governing, but that's because money has corrupted everything. You performed this song perfectly too. Hope you have a very Merry Christmas. :) Janet

  • @onewomanandsomesongs hi Janet. so good to hear from you. i agree completely with what you say about the politicians, but being christmas eve, i choose not to feed any negative energy to those damn' greedy, dishonest, tricky, hypocritacal misfit, poor excuse for government, heartless creeps in washington........ooops ....too late. merry christmas janet, thanks for making our journey a better experience than expected. peace and love, chuck.

  • great storytelling in song, (too bad it's not fictional, it's all too real, surreal to some!) ---you said what many feel......melodically:-) Cheers to you Chuck, and my best wishes for a safe happy blessed holiday:-)
