This video demonstrates how to steer the autonomous car 'Spirit of Berlin' using an eyetracking-device made by SMI.
The steering wheel is controlled by the driver's eyemovement, while the gaspedal is controlled by an operator in the back .
The eyeDriver software and the car were developed by the AutoNOMOS labs at the free university of berlin.
Visit http://autonomos.inf.fu-berlin.de for more information.

You can find more information about the eyetracker at SMI's website: http://www.smivision.com

It only takes one big breasted blond jogger to distract you and then Bam, you just nailed a kid on his/her bike.

They're just demonstrating their eye tracking device, they're not trying to say that this should be used by anybody for any real use.

guys calm down geez. first, and foremost let me say cars already drive themselves. remember the DARPA challange? --- you should read more than "an" article. also check into the UPI crusher. So..... with tech like that, who needs tech like this. Dangerous? I agree. But it might be helpful for wheelchairs. too bad they can look both ways when crossing the street though.

I have an IQ of 157 and you're sitting here doubting me. If the car will be able to drive itself, why would you ever need to steer with your eyes? Who is that lazy that they don't even want to put their hands on the wheel if the car is in any sort of danger? And trust me, with the proper funding a resources I could easily do something more beneficial with my time that what they have done there.

Don't talk about being informed. You are obviously not so well informed on this. If you steer it with your eyes, then it does not drive itself. One tiny distraction will cause one big mess with this. Thus, it is not practical, thus it is a worthless advancement. Who the fuck needs to track eye movement anyway? What kind of practical application would that have?

This is possibly the dumbest thing I've ever seen. If you're driving down the road, and see something that seems threatening and turn your eyes to look at it, you die. and @lc3package, this is the stupidest advancement in science ever BECAUSE it has no practical application. This will never work. Ever. Science is different than art in that science, by nature, is practical, whereas art is creativity.
