  • What makes the sound of Renualt engines in 2005 different to other ones like ferrari?, mclaren and etc, can any1 explain plz

  • @formula1nh Back in those days engine rules were much more relaxed regardless of the "reliability" rules. You could have your own bore/stroke. Alot of teams used similar/same exhaust pathing because of the peroscope style exhausts (these days it's back to the "old" style of making the diffuser more efficient than the rear wing since rule changes have made optimization of the rear wing almost impossible to accomplish).

Renault V10 in 2005 was a 72degree V10s IIRC just like bmw, ferrari, merc.

  • What the hell... Did Alonso get away with a ridiculous amount of understeer here or were all cars handling like this in 2005? I don't remember so. The front end is so lazy that the fact it took pole seems completely unreal.

  • It's a characteristic of the Michelin tyre exploited by Alonso during 2003-2006. Renault's weight distribution in those days was also said to be quite unique (which is why they got off the grid so well in those days too).

  • yup it was in 2006, and zyavar is spot on the facts!

  • @fahimsultan93 I used to think he preferred it, too, but after seeing many onboards of him at every team has has raced for, I think this style in the vid is a style he only used at Renault between 2003-2006. He didn't drive like that at Minardi and he hasn't driven like that since. I don't think Alonso prefers understeer or that it suits his driving style. I think he just copes with understeer better than anyone else.

  • Malaysia

  • @jkommah he gets his car setup to understeer because it helps generate greater exit speed. there is a videos on youtube about his driving style.

  • Alonso GOD of drivers.

  • @Purafibra93 Except Minardi that is.

  • @Purafibra93 ino yeah its weird, even shite teams had 7 speed gearbox

  • @formula1nh I also remember the R25 had six gears, and the other cars had 7 gears

  • He turns aggressive and the car just grips

  • @lordoftheriffs79 ahah I see, cheers, ino yeah they sound the same as other from outside as in commententory camera, true m8

  • @formula1nh in the onboards renault sounds different but from the outside, as i hear them, they sounded all the same... however, renault engine was arguably the loudest...
