ST. FRANCISVILLE - Rising water in West Feliciana Parish washed up a number of coffins at the Magnolia Cemetery in St. Francisville.

Inmates from the West Feliciana Parish Jail were out at the cemetery cleaning up the damage and moving the remains back to their original resting places this morning.

Most of the coffins were contained in concrete, and remained in the cemetery. Crews did find at least one casket that had floated away into a stand of trees next to the cemetery.

Members of the church that takes care of the cemetery said some of the coffins and caskets date back to the 1950's. Because some of the markers were damaged, they are working to contact family members to correctly identify the remains and ensure they are put back in their proper plots.
