If you die and find yourself in a world where you can interact with your own ideas as realities, then your beliefs allow you to interact with higher ideas like God with more ease and comfort if you have made peace with those ideas before dying. Forgiveness, love and so forth all give us more peace and wider options when we face a world made less out of matter and more out of consciousness. That's my belief, for what it is worth.
