Democratic Congressman George Miller, 7th District California, speaks on the House-Senate Reconciliation Bill for Higher Education passed following the Health Care Bill. The Democratic Party Leadership is speaking to the mass movement of youth, educators, and workers which came out March 4th in defense of public education. The movement must not be co-opted by Democrats, who refuse to fund the public sector and continually throw money at Insurance Companies and Banks. While expanding the Pell Grant will help individual students get through school, it does not support the schools themselves; the faculty, staff and working people who teach and support students everyday. States and Counties throughout the country are suffering fiscal crises, which are no fault of the educators and working people in the schools whatsoever! Cuts targeting public sector workers are excused as necessary because of their high pension and retirement costs, but the waste and speculation of public funds on risky bond markets is never mentioned...
