The Shinnecock Indians proposal to build a large casino resort in the Hampton Bays area of Long Island is said to be a threat to the Great Peconic Bay National Estuary and the fragile and unique Long Island Pine Barrens -- Peconic River complex which is also the source of water for residents of the East End.

The Shinnecock Indian Nation is not yet a federally recognized tribe but has established a reservation near Southampton and Shinnecock Hills on Long Island's East End.

Since this was originally produced the developer Ivy Ong is no longer bankrolling the Tribe's plans; he has been replaced by Detroit casino syndicators Mrs. Marian Ilitch and Michael J. Malik, Sr. who have formed Gateway Casino Resorts and Gateway Funding Associates for this project.

Both Ilitch and Malik were among the original backers of Detroit's MotorCity Casino and today Ilitch owns 100% of MotorCity Casino.

Ilitch and Malik are the driving force behind other Indian Casino proposals in California and Michigan.

Ilitch and her husband Mike Ilitch co-founded Little Caesars Pizza in the late 1950s and today the Ilitch Family (Ilitch Holdings, Inc.) also owns the Detroit Tigers and Detroit Red Wings.

This was originally produced for a group called SaveTheEastEnd.org

  • The same people pushing the Shinnecock casino plans have been pushing Indian casino plans in California and Michigan. Last year the California Legislature rejected their plans there and yesterday Congress rejected the plans they had in Michigan! These casino syndicators are exploiting Native Americans but not getting away with it.

  • shinnecock is my tribe and when we build the casino all of u white immigrants can kiss my Native American a**

  • The problems aren't with the Tribe, they are with the unscrupulous Detroit Developer partners!

  • We would be happy to post or bookmark/favorite any similar propoganda provided by the Shinnecock Indian Reservation or the Detroit casino syndicators bankrolling the plans for a casino resort.

  • Our country has long ago destroyed our wildlife habitats. I hate to sound cruel but if they don't want us to build a casino, give us our land back! We were deceived as a people...making contracts in a language that we didn't understand. Now is our time! America has to pay homage to it's original people

  • I understand the people's desire to have a casino because they need the money and jobs.

But at the same time, who's going to pay for the increased traffic, police duties, and sewage? Will the casino ownder pay, will the local town pay, or will the County be stuck with the bill?

  • White people wonder why no one likes them. As for the shinneocks this gov't has a thing against black folx, even if they are indian.

  • Let them have the casino. There's still plenty of open preserves on Long Island to enjoy.

  • Look around, we live in a world of money and the ones who stole it keep getting richer. You can afford to say this because you benefit from the ill gotten gains of the goverment and white mainstreamed culture and don't even know it! Your modern american you have no roots and the ones you claim grow on Native American backs. We build it and mother earth and sky father will take care of us if you build it, the natl parks will? theyre broke!!! So you know what SHUT UP STUPID..Native Hwn cousin

  • so you think....perpetuated lie....now get real ..whose your real threat today...a goverment that allows banks to make bad deals then blames some one else or us? And native today doesnt' mean "gone" or extinct...you got one drop the people still live..you remember your ways the culture still lives....the fight still rages on...if it werent for us Natives , you wouldn't be the people you are today. Get over yourself...colonized but getting over it!

  • Ha, what a bunch of bullshit!!! Whitey gets it all and controls it all and now that the native people of the area want to take directions into their own hands whitey changes the game plan and still says no!

Its self determination oh and the blood quantum thing...whitey thought that one up too so one drop or a hundred percent makes no difference...STILL NATIVE!!!

Reclaim, re do and remain my Shinnecock cousins...colonized but not counted out...Hawaiian Cousin!

  • Sadly the Indians have forgotten their roots about respect for Nature. Just like everyone else, they are obsessed with money.
