Our journey begins in Blindesti,a little village on the Moldava-Romania border. People here live in grinding poverty. They used to work as migrant labor in Romania, but since Romania joined the EU,they have needed visas. In the special economic zone Ungheni,at least there are a few companies. But pay is around 150 euros a month. Moldova's capital,Chisinau, displays unmistakeable traces of the Soviet past. The future is uncertain, and young people are leaving their country. Report by Veit-Ulrich Braun.

  • i wanto to emigrate to moldova. I dont care about the money ... it just seems like people are still real over there :)

  • @Durlesteanu , is it because a lot of Moldovans go work in US and EU and support their families as much as they can? I know a Moldovan guy, he worked 2 jobs in US for about 5-6 years, then he went back and now has a pretty good standart in Moldova.

  • @AncutaMerkel Well, I wouldnt say Moldova is an EXTREMELY poor country compared to Romania. The villages both in Romania and Moldova are very poor compared to the West European countries. Romania has better infrastructure, Education and better wages, but I wouldnt say its extremely better out there. Other than that, we have the same horrible contrasts in the city: lot of poverty and very wealthy people. I have not seen so many luxurious cars in the US for example, compared to Chisinau=) Not good

  • @sharkloaner Well, "gopniks" that gather in their neighborhoods in their typical outfits eating seeds and drinking whatever might be against Romania and Romanians in general. Russians normally hate Romania because this justifies their presence:) Try to find a moldovan person that knows history, try to find someone decently smart. I assure you that he/she will not deny the fact that we are Romanians. Look at massacrelord, a typical uneducated moldovan, he doesnt know what he is talking about=))

  • No how dare you boy you just listen here right now I have a couple of very important say to you first of all Romania is Romania and the Republic of Moldova is an extremely poor little isolated former Soviet Republic. These bizarre individuals from the Republic of Moldova who call us Romanians there brothers are dreaming. The Republic of Moldova can bugger off and join the EU on their own accord. Romania will help the Republic of Moldova but that is all we will offer these people
