BOOTSCHAFT: it is becoming increasingly important in this global age to illuminate individual surfaces and content, and to make them visible. This is precisely what the media art project BOOTSCHAFT is all about. It illuminates the patina - the natural organic film - on historical, political or 'geographically-charged' objects in a public space. Modern technology is used to 'put the spotlight on' the selected places/objects and their history, and to network them. Information is stored and decentralised, and a dialogue about history, present and future is set in motion.
Monumental buildings, museums, government buildings or symbolic landmarks are selected for local media performances by Sabine Kacunko in accordance with specific standard rules:

microcosmic patina
Micro organisms produce a natural patina on every building. Under the influence of these microscopic creatures, temperature, wind, air, water and the chemical and organic substances that they contain create a protective film that adheres to the building to give it its own unique 'fingerprint'. The effects of global climatic change and industrial emissions destroy this skin. Monument and building protection measures must ensure that this protective film is conserved in order to save cultural heritage which, at the same time, stores memories of living history.

places of illumination made visible
A sample of patina from the selected, history-steeped building is placed under a video microscope. Projectors connected up to the microscope transmit the images in real-time back onto the external wall of the building where the patina was taken from. The silent microcosm of patina emerges momentarily from its hidden world.

living light sculpture
The micro organism metabolism creates colour pigments as a 'waste product' that recombine, again and again, to create new and vivid, colour and light-intensive images. The illuminated object becomes a 'Living Light Sculpture'.

at the interfaces between nature and technology
Technology provides the observer with an additional channel of perception. By portraying the parallel existence of the micro and macrocosms via multimedia technology, the artist reveals otherwise hidden, parallel everyday worlds so that they can be perceived by the beholder. The resulting departure from routine perception opens up a new perspective on a familiar environment thereby encouraging enhanced perception and cognition.

  • Mehr davon, Sabine! Wenn ich auch nur einmal etwas live gesehen habe, hier ist die Möglichkeit, Deine Kunst etwas zu genießen. LG Romy
