Northern Territory sawfish slaughter

Dead sawfish - this carnage was allegedly left behind by a barramundi gill netting operation off the NT coast of northern Australia. The NT Government has since announced an emergency 90-day closure of the bay to gill netting because of this slaughter.

Sawfish are an endangered species and northern Australia is one of their final strongholds.

Sportfishers are lobbying for no-netting areas along the coast because of by-catch waste.
