Not only does the dog look lionesque, their growls also sound like lion growls!

We had a Leonberger who was so well behaved the neighborhood kids would play with him and ride on his back. He was off lined trained and certified. His training was done by a friend who was a USAF dog trainer. He was trained to obey hand and verba; commands & signals fro us and his trainer only. He was also trained to protect and would not let anyone who seemed agressive close to my wife unless she said it was OK. One of the best dogs I ever had. I miss him tons. He loved the pool...LOL

Would socialising them early on help to prevent the constant barking. I might be moving to large house in suburbs but people still walk past. I would be fine with hufing, but barking at anyone who passes might annoy neighbours.. please reply as really would like a leonberger once settled :)

@DefeatedDreamer Hi. It is simply a matter of training. This video was for comedy effect really. Normal behavior is yes, I wanted them to warn of people on the property, but the barking is under command. A simple 'thank you' and they would stop. (The little cross breed Holly however could be a little disobedient with this, but the Leo's, great ;)
