I stopped in Durham on my way up to Edinburgh several years ago and "stumbled" across this cathedral. It was a truly fascinating experience to tour it and feel a part of ancient history. I saw the plaques with the names of all the bishops of the church from it's inception, and noted the change from Anglo-Saxon to Norman French names in the year 1066. As an American, such history seems remote at first, but being in this great cathedral makes it all come alive. Great video!
I have been here. Twice, and I'll be paying a visit when I'm up that way again in a few months. Like some of you have said, you don't have to be a religious person to appreciate the aesthetics and pleasing atmosphere of a place such as this. It truly is a beauty to behold. I dare you to stand right under the central tower, then look up and try not to fall over! It's difficult!
Yeah, it's a very nice place to visit, but go there at 11.45pm. Sit down on one of the nearby benches, but go with a good friend. From around this time to about 12.15am you will hear the screams of a monk that was tortured in one of the towrs ermmm I think it's one of the south towers, eventually he was threw off. Anyways me and my friend heard about the story, apparently his spirit 'relives' the torture. My bat was dead wen we heard, bt I'm goin again nxt week 2 record it n I'll post a vid.
