Cut Genesis 17.9-27 (part 1)

Circumcision is not something we talk about every day. It personal, makes men squeamish, and doesn't seem to have much relevance to life in 2010.

But it is an important part of the Abraham story in the Bible. This message attempts to describe the importance of the ritual, and show its symbolic relevance to us.

Rabbi Moses Maimonides:

"The Reason for circumcision is to bring about a decrease in sexual intercourse and a weakening of the organ in question, so that this activity be diminished and the organ be in as quiet a state as possible. The bodily pain caused to that member is the real purpose of circumcision. Violent concupiscence and lust that goes beyond what is needed are diminished. The fact that circumcision weakens the faculty of sexual excitement and diminishes the pleasure is indubitable."

Circumcision removes the most sensitive part of a man's penis. The five most sensitive areas of the penis are on the foreskin. The transitional region from the external to the internal foreskin is the most sensitive region of the fully intact penis, and more sensitive than the most sensitive region of the circumcised penis.

There are Jewish people who choose to follow the peaceful and non-destructive child raising. There are many Jewish laws that you are now not practicing. Circumcision is mutilation.

Your responsibility is to take care of your child not to amputate his normal and healthy body parts.
