You'd be surprised how similar they are in design if you strip out the characters and just focus on the tracks and game mechanics. Definatly gives Mario Kart a run for it's money on a technical and gameplay scale.

It took me a decade to realise that the main theme, invincibility theme and death theme in Sonic the Hedgehog are the same tune.

Interesting how the game put everyone into slow boats. You can switch into the other vehicles to speed up, but all at different times. Neat.
