D14BL0 had a rough week at work and decided to make a trip over to UFO to take his mind off things. I tagged along for my own long overdue visit to the arcade (it's been almost a year since my last trek).

Sit back and enjoy a walk-through of the arcade, some gameplay and a look at the hardware. Arcade UFO is packed with Japanese cabs - Sanwa and Seimitsu parts and back to back linked cabs.

UFO is obviously very fighting game driven, but this is their bread and butter. The guys who run this place don't slack, either. Rather than waiting for Super Street Fighter IV arcade hardware, these guys have set up 360s inside the SFIV cabs for play so that you don't have to take a step back when you head out for some matches with the local competition. Bravo, guys.

Don't worry, shoot em' up fans, UFO knows how to pick em'. Dodonpachi, Death Smiles and Gigawing are all here. Metal Slug 6 in a candy cab will give you cavities.

Time Crisis 4 is there in its full glory and Initial D has been replaced by Wangan Midnight. There are also plenty of puzzle and music games if you so desire. Don't forget the 4 player Gundam setup. It may not be Virtual On, but it's still a blast.

I'm not going to try to list all of the games. Just watch the video and enjoy. I tried to give you the full experience of being there.

  • Went here once with my wife and her sister. We weren't big fans of the sterile environment with these type of seated cabinets. It's a different type of arcade than we're used to. I'm not saying it's bad, but we prefer retro classics with old cabinets that showcase the game's original charm, and this is definitely not the place for that (when we went). We have found the place for us though called Pinballz. Different atmosphere (more a step back in time). I'm glad there's more choices now.

  • @GadgetMan777 Pinballz is a great place. I head over there on lunch with workmates at least once a week now that they have extended hours. I intend to put together a video of Pinz at some point.

  • awesome video!

  • @HappyConsoleGamer Thanks! It's a good thing I don't live next door to the place. It wouldn't be long before I would be sleeping in the alley behind it.

  • cool video that arcade is awesome .. i haven't seen those cabinets in awhile cool amizidahoo puzzle bubble never heard of that one man yougot to make arcade reviews man ..awesome video thanks for sharing XD

  • That place is incredible!!! You are so lucky to have this in Austin!

DDP DFK and Deathsmiles side by side, FTW!!!

  • @wip3outguy7 I thought it was Ketsui - I've not seen the new Do-Don though.. Looks awesome! Just wish I had a Japanese 360 and a heap 'o cash.. Well, no doubt these games will be as widely available in future as current emulations are.

  • @wip3outguy7 Ha ha, thats a great thought - I have a somewhat addictive personality so I'd probably be lurking in a box not far away! A grimey Final Fight-like existence for just a few more hours of arcade hapiness.. ^_^ You should see Southend on Sea in the UK, not sure about its current state, but that was my personal Mecca for arcades, over a mile of huge Seafront Arcades.. Just thinking about it makes me weepy! X'D

  • A wonderful little arcade.. Whoever runs it has some good taste! In a way arcades are win/win at the moment IF you let local gamers know where you are - a few top titles from Japan & just about ANY old retro games will go down well. I hope there will be a resurgence in the scene - the West is almost bone dry save for Oaisies like this, and these are usually inner city only. As with retro stores, IMO it's VERY important to advertise - just photocopy a few hundered flyers a week, hand them out.

  • @futurematt5 The bullet hell shooter I showed first is one of the many versions of DoDonPachi. The Cotton one was Death Smiles. Glad you enjoyed it, man. Can't wait to see the arcade near you!
