In Reading, Math, & Science (2006) the USA was 33rd in reading. Brazil & Mexico are more literate than the US. In Math, the USA is 27th. The Czech & Slovak Republics are ahead of us. In Science, the USA is 22nd.
We're NOT number one! We're NOT number 1! We're NOT number 1!
We need MORE emphasis on education, or we are going to fade into oblivion.

@blackattack100 It shouldn't so why are you suggesting not to cut spending then? Tell me, if you were a college and the rich govt would pay for poor students, how much would you charge? 100K? 200K? There's a reason why college cost goes up and quality goes down.

@force3264 No, it goes up, because colleges need to pay for their staff still. It shouldn't be a pay race to get into a college.

@thehobbsguy People kicked out of home. College people not have jobs. People can do well without college. Let the cuts happen then tuition will go down automatically.
With the spike in tuition, less people will go to college so the cost will lower to attract more students. This means less people with 100k+ loans due to high interest that can never be paid back. Having more people in college does not create jobs. Supply does not create its own demand.

College is a scam. The question that should be asked is not how to prevent the cuts so tuition would be lower, or why the protests are so small, but why are people thinking college is the path to opportunity. 5000 people have PhD's are working as janitors. Some 17 million people have college degrees that are working in jobs that do not require a degree such as truck driving and construction. Let the tuition spike happen.
