There were in fact 6 Apparitions of the Virgin Mary between 13th May 1917 and 13th October of the same year.
On 13th October 1917, the day of the last Apparition, it poured with rain on the Cova da Iria. The three shepherd children Lucia, Francisco, and Jacinta were there as directed by the Virgin Mary to witness a miracle.
Since the miracle at Fatima, which occurred on Oct. 13, 1917, was predicted to take place in advance, and was fulfilled in the presence of almost 100,000 people, it's probably the greatest miracle in Catholic history outside the Resurrection. People including the anti-church-Freemasons, athiests and scoffers witnessed this event.
Many were healed, the muddy ground and the wet clothing of these witnesses were completely dry after the event. Only an atomic explosion could have generated that much heat to dry the ground and clothes, however, all the people there would have been killed instantly.
