This is a video of my beautiful daughter, Olivia Grego, singing Popular from the musical Wicked. And it's so much more than that.
You see, my amazing daughter overcame a lot to even compete in a regional talent show - let alone win it.
Olivia had undiagnosed Epilepsy.
And now this video is her audition tape for America's Got Talent!
Olivia is 12 now. Her epilepsy is under control and she's so much better. It's amazing. Thank you God.
She was still undergoing a lot of tests and she wasn't even on any medications yet. In fact, she was having petit mal seizures immediately before and after her performance but not during it. I almost did not let her go onstage. It was a last second decision to let her up there. I only did it because her sister, Katie, was going to be onstage with her and because she just loves to perform so much.
I am so glad I did. But not for the obvious reasons you're probably thinking.
Earlier the same day of the competition, Olivia found out she couldn't go on her school trip because of her condition. She was really upset because she couldn't be with her friends and because Epilepsy was starting to over take her life.
But she's a little fighter, and she decided she was going to do the talent show that night - no matter what. So we went to the show - knowing full well that she probably wasn't going to be able to compete. I figured we'll just all support her sister, Katie, who was also performing that night.
This was about the tenth talent show that Katie and Olivia had competed in. Neither of them had ever won or even placed in any of the previous shows. But they loved doing them, so we taught them to just have fun and do their best.
But I got to tell you, seeing them both on stage, winning, sure did feel great!
I was so proud of them because they kept trying until they succeeded and because Olivia didn't let an illness stop her!

lol- I'm not 100% sure what play backing means but if it means she's lipsynching then I'm flattered. Really flattered. Because that would mean that you think I am as good as the original. YAY. But I personally guarantee you that I'm really singing - with only my dad in the background :) Now there is a few times when the original back track comes in and out but I'm the only one that sings.
