Carquestions challenges GM to "man up" and recall 12 million vehicles for a safety and emissions defect concerning broken exhaust manifold bolts. Mark has researched and experienced rusted and broken exhaust manifold bolts on GM vehicles over the past few years and can't believe GM won't acknowledge the problem through a recall or TSB. Thousands of Silverado, Sierra, Suburban, Tahoe, Yukon and even Escalade owners have spent millions on this problem after their warranties ran out and some can't renew their licenses for failing an Etest because of it. NHTSA has received complaints of underhood fires. Carquestions is advising all owners to make a formal complaint to NHTSA and the Center for Automotive Safety and Transport Canada if you live in Canada.

  • Yeah, mine has it too...its bs but I think I found a way out. I'm in Illinois and yes the truck can't pass emissions. I bought a set of LQ9 heads and as soon as I get them I'll send them to a buddy of mine to have machine and Polish/Port job done on it. I figure since the heads have to come off I may as well do a performance upgrade.

  • @rrbigdan1 Great idea - it's good to see people fix things themselves - unfortunately not everyone has the ability.

  • Would this be for a 1995 chevy Tahoe biult in Canada? I have a broken manifold bolt nearest to the fire wall.Do I take the head off or can it be done with the head in place?

  • @cartondavid1 You can do it either way - check with a snapon guy I think they have a special tool - also check with a local garage - sometimes they have a specialist come in and do it - also check a few videos on YT on how to remove broken exhaust bolts

  • My 02 Sierra Denali 6.0 had those bolts do the samething I put new bolts in at about 60,000.

  • This has been going on for a lot longer than you think. I currently have a 1994 Chevrolet Suburban, with the 5.7 liter engine and it has the exact same problem. It's missing 3 exhaust manifold bolts...

  • I have an 03 silverado 4.8, 3 bolts snapped on driver side 4 on passenger side, you know what I'm doing in spring

  • @carquestions Thanx! I think I'll keep my 95 gmc and freshen it up. Been thinkin of buying newer but I dont trust newer trucks. Cheers!!

  • @1970gtosd 90's are ok - still have the broken bolts though - also diesel models have trouble with fuel pump modules overheating and the part is a bit pricey
