  • America actually builds far better ships. The oldest commissioned vessel in our fleet, USN Constitution, "Old Ironsides", actually sank a few unlucky poorly designed British ships that happened to cross its path in the War of 1812. It still sails today.

  • @HRMacQuacken the Constitution is a fine ship and it good to read about it and see it is still sailing. But it is in "active" service as an educational aid. Yes it sank some British ships back in the day but it doesn't mean US ships are therefore better in 2010. It would be like us saying Stonehenge means British buildings are the best in the World :-)

America will always have economies of scale on its side. You can build more of them, with a level of techology cheaper than us.

  • This ship is a waste of money. Submarines are the real power of the sea.

  • Submarines aren't too great at carrying helicopters or chasing pirates and once you've spotted one it is as good as sunk.

  • A beauty of a ship, britain has always sailed handsome vessels, cheers.

  • does anybody know what kind of champagne they use to launch/christen these ships?

  • "air defence" is not the same as "hunting down planes". Also in history ships used to be made from wood and were powered by the wind.

    Things change.
