In episode VI Obi-Wan (Ben) says that he was dead when he turned into Lord Vader. He turned into something he wasn't.

@batzerz what you dont understand is that after he pledges himself darth vader completly takes over. a sith is like your evil side being unleashed and the person is locked away. in anakins case he returns because of luke who constantly kept calling vader anakin and beleiving in him
