I previously mentioned the super, pre-holiday deal on the Panasonic high-definition camcorder, but a deal is only good if the product works well. So this afternoon, I got some playtime with the HDC-SD10 and recorded a short video of my office area. My workspace is quite the mess and I wasnt even planning to share the video, but I was so impressed with the 1920 x 1080 output, that I decided to upload it. I still have to get a handle on the various buttons and features, but overall, this is a solid camcorder for the $299 I paid.

I originally thought Id have to upgrade my iMovie 08 to the current edition, but it turns out that the older application imports the AVCHD file format. Perhaps iMovie 09 offers support for direct recording from camera to Mac, but thats not a feature I really need, so Ill stick with the software I have.

Obviously, the video that youre able to view is compressed and resized down from 1920 x 1080, so youre not getting a true view of what I can see. But the quality from where I sit is quite good, especially for the price. And with the small size and weight of the HDC-SD10, I suspect this little device just made the cut for Januarys Consumer Electronics Show.

  • @Scottde420 Panasonic HDC-SD10

  • what kind of camera is this?

  • I love how you refer to expensive technology on your desk as "crap" lol.

  • @Beater06 well those are the cheap brands, but thanks, i didn't know that!

  • @berper1996 FullHD monitors aren't expensive! You can get one for 170 euros already (=219 $ right now).

  • guys, you dont even need full HD cameras. Unless you have a full HD moniter (which are VERY expensive), the quality of 720P and 1080P are exactley the same. And yes, when your watching a video in "HD", it really isn't in HD

  • great camera dude!

  • "ohhh thats nice an slow, thats, thats the way to do it" hahaha i got a dirty mind

    nice cam dude

  • I have two cams, one is optical zoom and the other is digital zoom, one has good vid but bad audio, the other good audio but bad video, on is 1080/720p the other one is 720p, both hd, one has batteries AA the other charger. both are 8mp but the other can be 5 or 3mp, one of them is only 20 frames per sec the other start at 30 to 60 frames per second.

  • Nice video, I have the same camcorder and imovie09 too. It imports AVCHD videos very fast and the editing is very smooth too. Not sure if I can direct recording from camera to Mac, I am gonna try it out this weekends.

Btw, I am not so happy with the indoor recording quality of this cam, your video seems to look a little better than mine, mine has like lots of video noise and I cant seem to reduce them as much even using the manual recording settings
