Before I became a mom of 3 I made $24 per hour. It only took me 15 minutes to get to work on the bus and I had a very nice car to use in the evenings and weekends that I paid off in less than 2 years. So your theory is nonsense to most hard working Americans.

I figure I'm saving at least $4000 a year by not driving a car, probably more. It's money that stays in my pocket rather than supporting the oil and insurance cartels. I love the simplicity of the bike. Not quite as convenient as a car but the economic advantages far outweigh that for me. Not having a car has the side benefit that I am not constantly needlessly going places and spending money on stuff I don't need just because it's easy to get there.
