In my country, the emergency number is "cero cero cero", while the American emergency number is "nueve uno uno". This PIF, of course, is for British people, but it's just as important to anyone, regardless of where in the world they live. Instead of 999, just call whatever your emergency number happens to be!

To be fair, the first thing is not to panic. Secondly, starve the fire of oxygen by throwing a damp tea towel over the pan. By the time the fire brigade turn up ( no offense intended at all), your house ain't going to be much of a home any more.
