Video from Kamiyasan from the 70s of a Chlamy cell swimming using its two flagella. Flagella are extremely conserved (near identical to ours!) and all the major discoveries of flagellar motility come from Chlamydomonas. We study how those long structures move and ask questions like: What causes coordinated movement? What protein complexes and structures are important/required for flagellar motility? What is the homology (similarity) between those proteins and vertebrate/human proteins?
