Coach Nelson demonstrates a counter fighting drill using a rope.

This exercise builds muscle memory.

When stepping under the rope to your left, be sure to start with your left foot and let the right foot follow (visa versa). When stepping under the rope to your right, be sure to start with your right foot and allow left foot to follow.

While going under the rope, be sure to maintain eye contact with your opponent.

While stepping under the rope to your left, be sure your right shoulder taps the rope. You don't want to step too far from your opponent, making yourself vulnerable, thus allowing your opponent to reset and counter.
