** For those wondering, Remembrance Day is the Canadian equivalent to Memorial Day. Essentially, a day to remember those who have died for your country, past and present **

Sick of those sappy tribute videos to the troops, I set out to make my own in November 2006, during my 5th year of high school, and this was the result. To me, war just isn't like that. Something as hard hitting as war needs music that is just as powerful, and the hard rock/heavy metal genre was just the one that I thought would do it. Iron Maiden had come out with their new album a couple of months prior, and the song "These Colours Don't Run" spoke volumes to me. While those other sappy, heartwrenching videos are pulling on your heartstrings, I'd like to think that this one just takes the issue, shoves it right in your face, and tells you how it is.

One prominent thing about this video is that I focus primarily on the Canadian troops, as I am a proud Canadian. This is nothing against other countries that may be involved in Afghanistan - I just feel as though Canada's role in the conflict is largely understated in the media. I am not a political individual and this video is not politically motivated.

Yes, the flags at the beginning and end are looped. They were culled from 1-second clips from an O Canada video because weather did not permit me to shoot new, minute long footage. I'm an amateur at this video-editing stuff, so take it easy on me. Now that I've eliminated most of the unconstructive criticism I could've drawn, enjoy :)

  • Hey, this is truely a moving video. Awesome choice for the music!! I'm a US Marine Vet...So all I can say is, Canadian, American, whatever....we're all in this together.

  • There are those of us Americans who still remember placenames like Vimy Ridge, Dieppe, Juno Beach. We don't forget those who fought beside us, or sometimes in front of us.

    Honor to Canada.

  • Great video and I particularly liked the write up you gave. A lot of other countries are overlooked in modern conflicts, given the UK and US involvement. Fact remains that all soldiers fighting in Afghanistan and still policing Iraq are top guys and gals. I'm former 2 Para (uk) and got medi binned in 2005. I have to say, as proud as I am of being British (welsh British!!!), Canadian, American, Aussie and Kiwi allies... (Even some of the new Afghan National Army), make me even more proud to be a

  • Being an Iraq veteran, all I can say is God bless ALL our countries. I've seen some horrible things and some genuine friendship of joint task forces. Point being, We ALL served there and Some of us gave it all. Still stirs up memories to this day.. Not a single person in my TF(which # will remain anonymous for obvious reasons) will forget. I've seen the presence of many countries. To give credit to one Should imply credit all around the board.

  • Im not gonna lie, im American. However, despite what ever American civilians may say about how "strong and uber powerful" the states is and how we are better then everyone else (me being a civilian btw), anyone who has served has the utmost respect and honor towards the men and women of other nationalities that fight alongside us. Trust me, we won't forget what you guys have done for use. We owe ya one, or two, or ten...

  • i still remember the first time i saw your video, its still as powerfull now as it was then - good work.

  • "They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old. Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun, and in the morning, We Will Remember Them."

"When you go home. tell them of us and say: for their tomorrow, We gave our Today."

Rest In Peace all of The Fallen of WW1 and WW2. We Will Remember Them.
