I didn't go to high school. When I was 21 I decided to get my GED and learned all I needed to know in just a few short months. Today I unschool my four beautiful children and because I choose I am finishing up my BA in psychology. My oldest son did not learn to read until he was 9 playing the video game Zelda. He is 12 now and writing his own book along with another unschooling friend. I am so very proud of my children & the passions they have chosen to chase & am happy to be along for the ride.

would you let your children go to college and get a degree though?

not to speak for her, but the whole idea is that you let the kid manage their own life. so if her kids wanted to go to college, why not? if it helps them be happy and follow their dreams instead of being coerced into it, then it doesnt contradict anything shes saying.

This hole unschooling thing always makes me think of one time when I was 7 or 8 when my mum asked me what bedtime story I wanted and I asked her to read me 1001 things you should no about science and I loved it. (Put me out like a lite though).

Focusing primarily on the childs' needs rather than those of the teacher or parent.... Now that is radical!;o) Assuming that a young human will naturally have a drive to learn and become? No way! And a child with a strong sense of security and love will be better prepared to pursue and achieve his goals.... What a concept!

Love the tomato analogy.

Ride the wave.
